The WindPaddle is a self launching, self standing sail that stows either on-deck or below in a small coiled/folded package that is 1/8th it's original size. Combine this with the ability to be quickly launched and doused while out on the water and you have a very easy to use sail.

At 13 oz., the WindPaddle requires no boat nor deck
modifications for use.

Physical Dimensions:
Deployed diameter - 42" (106.7 cm.)
Coiled/folded diameter - 15"
(38.1 cm.)
Sail area - 9.62 sq. ft. (0.8937 sq. m)
Weight - 13 oz. (0.37 kg.) (Adventure Mark II)

The WindPaddle is a flexible and forgiving sail made of 1/2 oz. rip-stop polyester "spinnaker" sailcloth supported by a virtually unbreakable perimeter batten. From recreational day touring, kayak fishing to expedition sea kayaking, the WindPaddle is your sail of choice.

PRODUCT REVIEWS!!!

"...The WindPaddle...solves many of the problems associated with kayak sails—the bulk, the hassles of foredeck storage, the overbig presence—in a unique way." (read more) Wavelength Magazine, January 2008

Wind Paddle – “Adventure” Mk I model is a 9 out of 10 for pure fun.
This is a very clever kayak sail that is simple to use and totally portable from kayak to kayak... (read more) Paddling.net

After getting settled into the boats, we pulled out the sails we’d borrowed from WindPaddle. Neither of us had sailed before, and didn’t know what to expect. These things are a blast! They didn’t take long to get the hang of, and after a bit we were cruising downstream faster than we could ever hope to paddle. (read more)

Comments from
Wind Paddle users:

"... using the sail on our Dorado kayak allows us to even track very close to 90 degrees cross wind as we are exceptionally stable. I tracked down wind to three guys in their yaks from a couple of km out, turn left - went around the first guy on my left and turned right back to the other two guys and not once used my paddle"
Mike (Wellington, N.Z.)

"I am reaching or sailing easily 90 degrees off the wind!"
Glen (OR)

"Very nice device. I sailed back home 2 miles today!"
Robert (FL)

"Thanks for the WindPaddle. It made it here to the South Pole station before Christmas and was a great surprise gift. Maybe we'll test it on a snow sled if we get some good winds! Thanks!" Shelly (South Pole, Antarctica)

Quick shipping, very compact, works great!

WIndPaddle Sail - deck-harness system
Deck Mounting system.
(Adventure and Convertable models only)

The WindPaddle offers the following advantages over all other kayak, canoe or small-craft sails currently available;
  • Quick, easy and safe to launch/deploy and douse while out on the water. Fasten to the deck using the WindHarness lines.
  • Stows coiled compactly on deck or below decks in 1/8th it's deployed size.
  • Sails easily in 180 degrees of heading (Beam reaches across the wind)
  • Launches and fills instantly from on deck. (click here to see video)
  • Uses your oar/paddle to support the sail or rig to your foredeck, thwart or bow (no spars, masts, booms or supporting structures needed).
  • Easily and quickly able to de-power instantly in gusts, either lower sail or allow it to deform and spill air. (The WindPaddle can be quickly lowered horizontal to the water.)

The WindPaddle was design by sailors and kayak paddlers to be an efficient, safe and lightweight downwind sail. The WindPaddle can be held parallel to the water/wind to de-power the sail quickly.

With higher wind conditions, the sail is connected to the deck of the boat at the bottom, and held with it's "WindHarness" line kit as shown in the top photo. Simply let go of the lines, and the Wind Paddle flattens against the deck de-powering instantly.

The Wind Paddle coils and stows quickly in it's integrated pouch. The Pouch/Paddle Pocket connects the sail to the Paddle, and a velcro strop attaches to the paddle/oar shaft to hold it securely.
